Well Being Tip No 5 - Being In the Moment

Just being in the moment
 
Being in the moment is nothing more than awareness of yourself in the here and now. You can achieve this by being silent and doing nothing for a few moments, regularly. This is not about thinking, reading, making notes or doing anything at all – this would be being ‘active’.
 
Allow your mind to rest, be still, silent. Notice the peace this brings, and how negative thought and stress disappears – just for a few brief moments. In these moments of stillness, you do not have to fear anything, let your anxieties fade away.
 
Try a few minutes to begin with, if you find it hard to still your mind at first – don’t worry – a few moments each time will grow into minutes, with practice.
 
It isn’t hard to do, doesn’t cost anything, and you can do it wherever you are. You can begin with the deep breathing exercise – this will help to relax you.
 
Just find a quiet time in your day, if possible do it in an outdoor natural environment, close your eyes, do nothing - ‘be still’. Allow your senses to notice scents, sounds, sensations – it doesn’t matter what these are, just be aware of them – birds, a breeze, passing footsteps.
 
Accept any thoughts, avoid resisting what comes into your mind, while you still remain ‘in the moment’. This is your ‘here and now’, whatever you are feeling, thinking, hearing - in this moment. Be conscious of your self in the ‘now’.
 
Ekhart Tolle in his book ‘The Power of Now’, said that if you asked a horse “what time is it?” that the horse would reply, ‘Well its Now of course’. We as humans need to be in our natural state more, as we have forgotten about being in the ‘Now’. We need to take time out to remind ourselves of this natural state of being – so…….
 
Start with a few minutes. Increase this to 5, then aim for 10 minutes a day, every day. If you can do this regularly, you will start to notice changes in your life.
 
Meanwhile, enjoy the experience of a Human ……..Being.
